Aragón to Step Up Investment Search for Just Transition Municipalities

The Government of Aragón wants to accelerate the arrival of new companies in municipalities covered by Just Transition programs. Economy, Competitiveness and Employment Minister Eva Valle made a commitment in Andorra on Thursday to “step up the search for investment projects” and announced that available regional funds would be used to build industrial facilities capable of meeting the needs of companies interested in establishing themselves in the area.

The meeting held at Andorra Town Hall brought together representatives of the regional, national and county-level administrations for the first time, along with the mayors of Just Transition municipalities and localities affected by the Mudéjar Hub. Judit Carreras, director of the Institute for Just Transition, also took part. During the day, attendees visited several industrial estates in the town.

MORE INDUSTRIAL LAND AND ENERGY TO ATTRACT COMPANIES

Valle argued that job creation in these counties “depends on facilitating the rapid reindustrialization of the area” and said the regional government would use “all the political, administrative and legal instruments” at its disposal. The minister also considers it “essential to apply maximum flexibility at the Mudéjar Hub” to attract new companies and promote economic activity.

One of the main resources available is the energy capacity freed up at this electricity hub. The Government of Aragón points to 937 MW of generation capacity and nearly 90 MW of consumption capacity, which it intends to use both for new energy projects and, especially, for industries requiring a substantial electricity supply. The goal is to use this infrastructure to consolidate a stable economic base in the area.

€18.2 MILLION FOR 34 MUNICIPALITIES SINCE 2024

Javier Camo, director general of Internationalization and Trade and Foreign Investment, said that companies considering establishing themselves in Aragón are primarily looking for two things: space and energy supply. “Investment projects need large industrial facilities and energy, and that is what we are seeking to make available to investors,” he explained during the meeting.

The meeting also served to review the Just Transition Funds managed by the Aragonese Development Institute. Since 2024, the 34 municipalities included in the Just Transition program have received €18.2 million, an amount representing between 40% and 50% of the total allocated to the province of Teruel. In addition, these localities receive five extra points in the assessment of calls for applications and can obtain another five when they have a low population density.
