Average savings per participant also place Aragón among the regions with the highest figures. Each account holds an average of €16,031, clearly above the national average of €13,312. Navarra leads this indicator with €19,535, while Aragón is among the regions exceeding the €16,000 threshold.
ZARAGOZA AMONG THE PROVINCES THAT SAVE THE MOST
The weight of Zaragoza is particularly significant. Individual pension plans in the province hold €3.348 billion, making it the fourth Spanish province with the largest volume of savings in these products. Across Aragón, pension plan assets also equal 8.6% of the region's GDP, the highest percentage in Spain alongside La Rioja, compared with 5.7% nationwide.
The difference with the rest of the country is also apparent when comparing the number of participants. After Aragón, the highest proportions are recorded in La Rioja, at 19.3%; Madrid, at 18.6%; and Castile and León, at 18.1%. Spain has 7.24 million participant accounts, 1% fewer than a year earlier, and only the Balearic Islands, Cantabria and the Basque Country increased their numbers during 2025.
GREATER EXPOSURE TO EQUITIES
People in Aragón also concentrate a large share of their savings in products exposed to the markets. Some 85.2% of pension plan assets in Aragón are invested in mixed or equity vehicles, while pure equities account for 20.8%. Across Spain, these two categories represent 84.9% of total assets.
Individual pension plan assets in Spain reached an all-time high of €96.331 billion at the end of 2025, after growing 4.4% during the year. The Inverco Observatory attributes this increase to the revaluation of financial markets, with pension plans delivering a 6% return that offset benefits exceeding contributions. Over six years, assets have increased by 17.5%.
SPAIN STILL FAR BELOW THE OECD AVERAGE
Despite these record highs, the Inverco Observatory warns that there is still room to boost private savings. Individual and occupational pension plans together account for 8.3% of Spain's GDP, well below the OECD weighted average of 57.6%. The organization proposes strengthening incentives, promoting occupational plans, reviewing ten-year liquidity rules and increasing tax deductions for individual plans to encourage long-term saving.
