The decline places Aragon among the regions where home sales fell the most. Only the Principality of Asturias (-15.2%), the Balearic Islands (-14.3%) and the Basque Country (-12.4%) recorded steeper decreases. At the other end of the scale were Navarre, with growth of 26.4%, Galicia, with 10.8%, and Castile and León, with 9.7%.
The comparison with the immediately preceding month also shows a loss of activity. Home sales in Aragon fell 18.4% compared with June. Despite this, the 1,517 transactions recorded represent the fourth-highest figure for a July in Aragon in the entire historical series.
SECOND-HAND HOMES ACCOUNT FOR THE MAJORITY OF TRANSACTIONS
Second-hand homes once again clearly dominated Aragon's real estate market. Of the sales recorded in July, 1,302 involved existing homes, compared with 215 transactions involving new homes. This means that around eight out of every 10 properties sold during the month were not newly built.
There is also a wide gap between unrestricted and subsidized housing. The INE recorded 1,369 sales of unrestricted homes in Aragon, while a further 148 involved subsidized housing.
In total, 2,774 housing transfers were carried out in Aragon during July, taking into account more than just sales. These included 561 homes transferred through inheritance, 41 through donations and seven through exchanges.
MORE THAN 7,000 PROPERTIES CHANGED HANDS IN ARAGON
Looking at all types of property, 4,917 urban properties were transferred in Aragon during July. Of these, 2,692 changed ownership through a sale, while 960 inheritances, 71 donations and 17 exchanges were recorded.
These transactions were joined by 2,344 transfers of rural properties. In this case, there were 877 sales, 835 inheritances, 54 donations and 34 exchanges, in addition to other types of transfer.
Across Spain, 61,417 home sales were recorded in July, 5.1% fewer than a year earlier. The decline affected both new homes, which fell 1.4%, and existing homes, which dropped 6.1%. The data published by the INE is still provisional and will be revised when figures for the same period next year are released.
